St Catherine’s Catholic College aims to provide opportunities to develop and cultivate leadership qualities within all students. We aim to instil in students a strong sense of social justice through service to others.
Students from Years 6 and 12 are all eligible to become school leaders. Willing students commit to a 3-week leadership period where they gain a taste of the expectations and role of student leaders. At the end of that period, if they are willing to accept the role, they present a speech to the school community and apply to the principal for this very important position. After approval from the principal in consultation with the school staff, the successful students are presented with their leader badges at the Liturgy of Light (Year 12 and Year 11 Prefects) and the Opening School Mass (Year 6 and SRC representatives from Years 4-10).
The leaders perform a number of ceremonial roles on special occasions. They meet and liaise often with the principal. The leaders are responsible for setting a good example of being responsible, respectful and safe at all times.
Sport Captains have the responsibility for the care of sports equipment and maintain house enthusiasm in sporting activities. Leaders and the Student Representative Council are expected to represent the school at community functions such as the ANZAC March, Remembrance Day and community celebrations as well as school-based activities such as performance nights and working bees.
